For your convenience, our most common questions are answered right here.

Outdoors or indoors?
It’s your personal choice, and we can do both, depending on your personal style. Newborns, as an example, tend to do better in the studio, while toddlers might be better outside if they have a lot of energy. We’ll discuss your options and make suggestions when we chat to prepare for your session.

How soon can we see the photos?
In 3 – 4 weeks after your personalized shoot, we’ll invite you back to the studio for your viewing session. We’re just as excited as you are!

How many photos do we get to see?
30-35 photos for  a standard session and 10-12 for a Lil ’10 session.

Will you come to our house?
Absolutely. You know, sometimes children are best where they are most comfortable, and especially when you’re looking at home portraits, what better matches your décor than your décor? Just make sure your house has plenty of good, natural light. I have a soft spot in my heart for lifestyle sessions in my client’s home.

Will you recommend a location?
Yes! Just let me know if you have any ideas and leave it to me! I am always scouting for locations.

Are you a full-time photographer?
Totally. I’ve been working with families and weddings for the last 12 years.

Can we visit your studio to discuss our session?
Please do! We love showing off our studio, so just make an appointment. We’re excited to meet you.

Is there a travel fee?
No. Not if you’re inside of the San Francisco/Sacramento area. Otherwise, I’m happy to travel, too! Just let me know where you are and we can discuss my travel fees.

How long does a session last?
My full sessions last about 45 minutes to 1 hour — just enough to tire kiddos out!

When should I book newborn photos?
This is a great question! Book within the first two weeks after birth, since babies are still sleepy and pretty easy to work at that point. Those sweet little bundles still want to curl up at that age.

When should I book maternity photos?
For maternity photos, you want to book starting at 30 weeks. Call us in your second trimester and we’ll get you in!

Do you work on weekends?
Very rarely, since I have weddings on weekends. However, I do have some occasional weekends available for an extra fee, so book soon to ensure your spot!

What if I don’t want to be in the photos?
That’s ok; we can focus on just your kids. To be fair, prepare to be in at least 1 photo just so we can have it as a keepsake! Kids treasure pictures of parents more than we sometimes value having them taken at the time.

What happens if it rains?
Ah, weather! If we end up with inclement weather, we will either shoot in my studio or reschedule. Donna keeps an eye out on the weather so that we can properly prepare for your session.

What happens if my child is ill?
We hope he (or she) feels better soon, and we’re more than happy to reschedule. Just let Donna know.

What if my kids misbehave?
Kids are kids! I will gladly work with them, or we can even reschedule to a better day. We understand that we all have our off days! And honestly, sometimes, the most endearing portraits are the ones of them being themselves!

How far in advance should I book?
We recommend about a month out since my schedule books out especially during wedding season: August – November.

Do you take holiday portraits for Christmas cards?
Yes, and this is exactly the purpose mini sessions serve. Keep an eye out for announcements on my site’s events page, newsletter, or Facebook page.

What should I bring to our premiere?
Nothing! Helpful and enjoyable, it’s a blast to view your whole gallery up on a big screen, then plan your custom products with our help. You’re able to hold and see each product choice in person, and can rely on our expert help in choosing and designing the right products for you. We’ll take as much time as you need to answer all of your questions. By the time you leave, you’ll completely confident in your order! Make sure you bring all the decision makers, and have your kids stay home or with friends and family so we can work through the process together.

What should I wear to our session?
Consider wearing the same color palette, stick to neutrals, and don’t do high contrast. Look for minimum patterns (at least no large ones). We’ll send you our outfit guide, and Pinterest is a great place to look for ideas, too.

Can we include our pets?
Absolutely! I love dogs, and I actually started photography as a dog photographer! I know how to work with dogs since I was also a dog trainer in my past life.

Can we view our photos online instead of coming to your studio?
Yes. . .but only if you live out of town. We prefer to have you come in to the studio so we can decide on the process (and your products) together. It’s much more convenient and faster in the end.

Do you include prints and products as part of your session fee?
The session fee includes just the session because Caroline prefers to sit down with you and choose your products with you so you can have a completely custom experience.

Can we buy all our digital images?
Yes. . .absolutely! A USB drive of all your digital images can be purchased additionally.

Do you shoot weddings?
Yes! I shoot weddings under my main brand, Milou and Olin Photography.
